Pattern boldness is more common in men as compared to females. Male pattern baldness is the main cause for hair loss in men. Almost more than 95% of hair loss is due to thinning of hair in men due to male pattern baldness. The pattern depicts the shape left after the hair loss such as mostly in men the middle hair completely wipes out and the side hairs remains same making a horse shoe like shape at the back of the head. People consider many factors as a reason for the baldness. But the disease which is basically the reason of pattern baldness is androgenetic alopecia.

The occurrence of pattern baldness is different from one population to another depending upon their genetic background. Environment is not proved to be a reason for baldness, it is more associated with the age factor and affects male almost 74% and in women with age it affects 57% after 80 years of age or more. Male pattern baldness is basically due to genetic issues, a person whose father is suffering from pattern baldness will likely to have the same problem. This configuration works perfectly in women but they also suffer from baldness like when a hair falls out then no more hair grows at its place. Female pattern baldness does not create a shape over the head similar to male pattern baldness but a random hairless shape can be seen. The reasons are not well understood but to some extent are known such as iron deficiency, aging, family history of baldness, breaking of hair, skin diseases, patchy hair loss and vitamin deficiency.

Hair transplant is quite known and preferred by most men but it is a temporary solution with high cost and painful treatment.
